CMS Specifications

Before you start defining the backend of a CMS, whether its a WordPress, Umbraco or Drupal website, it is essential to try define the CMS data structures in good old Microsoft Word. We do this because:

  • You get an instant overview of the content structures which creates a clear plan of what you are doing.
  • It's faster to modify a Word document than interact with CMS editors.

Once you start building the CMS these structures may change. At that point we no longer go back and modify the original specification. However it still provides a strong starting point for any job.
